Shakespeares Romeo and Juliet and the city of Sarajevo Essay Example for Free
Shakespeares Romeo and Juliet and the city of Sarajevo Essay Who would have thought? A classic tale of two lovers swept away in a fight that they didnt want any part of brought to life. Its happened; maybe even different times other than with Bosko and Admira. The similarities between Shakespeares Romeo and Juliet and Sarajevos Romeo and Juliet are eerie. Fights between two families, sides, religions, whoever or whatever can tear apart even the strongest bonds. In Romeo and Juliet, the two lovers are kept apart by a family feud that they want no part of, yet have to be. With Admira and Bosko, they are not exactly kept apart but forced to leave their town and in turn die together because of someone elses battle. The acceptance of your boyfriend or girlfriend by family members and loved ones can mean a great deal to the two lovers. If Romeo and Juliet knew they would have had the approval of their families, I highly doubt they would have done all the sneaking around and lying they did. However, in Bosko and Admiras story, the two knew they were accepted in each others families. Their parents didnt make a big deal over the fact that they belonged to different religions or were of different nationalities. This gave them strength. Again, like Juliet and her Romeo, Admira and Bosko would have done anything for each other. Each meant the world to the other. After the war broke out, Boskos mother left Sarajevo, but Bosko stayed behind; everyone knew it was love that held him in Sarajevo. It was vise-versa for Romeo. He was banished, but love and the urge to see his Juliet one last time, drove him back. The tragedy falls into place with the death of the two lovers in both tales. The stories have an affect on you when you read about them, it shows you what people would do for love, and what love can do to people. It also shows you what a foolish fight can do to those in love. You could say it tears them apart, but others would disagree and say it brings them together

Short Summary and Quote Analysis in To Kill a Mockingbird :: essays research papers
Scout Finch, the youngest child of Atticus Finch, narrates the story. It is summer and her cousin Dill and brother Jem are her companions and playmates. They play all summer long until Dill has to go back home to Maridian and Scout and her brother start school. The Atticusââ¬â¢ maid, a black woman by the name of Calpurnia, is like a mother to the children. While playing, Scout and Jem discover small trinkets in a knothole in an old oak tree on the Radley property. Summer rolls around again and Dill comes back to visit. A sence of discrimination develops towards the Radleyââ¬â¢s because of their race. Scout forms a friendship with her neighbor Miss Maudie, whose house is later burnt down. She tells Scout to respect Boo Radley and treat him like a person. Treasures keep appearing in the knothole until it is filled with cement to prevent decay. As winter comes it snows for the first time in a century. Boo gives scout a blanket and she finally understands her fatherââ¬â¢s and M iss Maudieââ¬â¢s point of view and treats him respectfully. Scout and Jem receive air guns for Christmas, and promise Atticus never to shoot a mockingbird, for they are peaceful and donââ¬â¢t deserve to die in that manner. Atticus then takes a case defending a black man accused of rape. He knows that such a case will bring trouble for his family but he takes it anyways. This is the sense of courage he tries to instill in his son Jem. Atticus defines courage to Jem. "I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you're licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what" (112). A man with a gun, in his eyes, is not a man, but a coward. It takes little character to point a gun and pull a trigger, but it takes mountains of courage to accept a challenge in which you are already defeated. Nothing to do but reverse fate, overturn the thoughts and predictions which stands looking down with a grin upon its face. This feat maybe impossible, but not totally forsaken, for courage prevails over cowardice. Courage, bravery, selflessness, all attributes necessary for winners to possess. Japan has bombed Pearl Harbor'. Billie and her family were sad for the families whose loved ones were injured or killed in the attack. They were also upset that the U. S. Had been attac ked. They continued to listen to the radio. Eventually, they heard ââ¬Å"The U. S. Is now at war. â⬠Since the U. S. Entered the war the government started to ration sugar and gasâ⬠(Billie). ââ¬Å"The rationing of sugar and gas caused a rise in the black marker (Mueller). The Invasion to Normandy, ââ¬Å"D-day, was on June 6 The plan was then to land and invade five beaches off the coast of Franceâ⬠(Mueller). Billie remembers what happened when the invasion was successful ââ¬Å"The invasion was broadcast on the radio. I remember what happened when the invasion was successful. Everybody went to the town square to celebrate. The church bells were ringing, the fire whistle was going off and people were having fun.
